Trail updates around JPL

This is an excerpt from an e-mail sent to another rider inquiring about the trails in that area:
----------------
Sunset Ridge -closed
El Prieto -closed
Gabriellino from Red Box - closed
Mt Lowe (Mueller Tunnel) was closed even before the fire due to a slide. The closure order is on the FS site. I think it is until June 2010.

Lower Merrill - open
Middle Merrill- open but the road to Inspiration Point (Mt Lowe Motorway) is closed so you can ride up it or access from Idlehour trail.
Upper Merrill - closed.

There are some great trails in the Chantry area. They are tough to climb but lots of fun and very scenic. Just be careful because they are very crowded now with all the other trails closed.

All the roads have been closed and are supposed to reopen today for commuter traffic only. All trails in the burn area are closed until 9/30/10.

I don't know when the road will open to Mt Wilson? When it does you could probably do shuttle runs from there. All the trails from Mt Wilson except the Rim trail are open to my knowledge. There is a closure order and map on the Forest Service site but it is hard to read. One of the guys is working on a better map. When it is available I will send it to you.

Many people are still using the trails in the burn zone. If caught it is up to a $5000 fine. The FS says they are issuing tickets and plan to step it up.

We will be doing trail maintenance on the Middle Merrill Trail on 1/9/10 if you want to join us.

Thanks Remel! It sure would be nice to ride out there right now if there hadn't been a fire! Was looking forward to making a trip up there when there's snow. Hopefully next year i guess.
